Brunei’s economy quite depends on revenue
from export. The main revenue is from selling oil,
natural gas, and petroleum products. The
country’s status also highly exceeds the balance
of trade. Moreover, Brunei also plays an
important role in exporting oil and natural gas.
The country’s economy highly depends on such
business sector for about 62% of GDP. In 2010,
Brunei was the third biggest oi l producer of
Southeast Asia and was the fourth biggest
producer of Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) in the
world. Besides, Brunei also sets the policy to
reduce the dependence of oi l and tr ies to
promote the diversification among other business
sectors non-related to oil. The participation of
private sectors is more emphasized, for example,
in the business of Islam financial service, Halal
food industry, and SMEs. Recently, the country is
in the process of privatization allowing private
sectors to participate more in the economy.
