Promoting Thai Food Products

for Export to the U.S. via Green Lane

The United States of America possesses
strict laws and regulations for importing food
products. The U.S. has officially announced
and applied the Food Safety Modernization
Act (FSMA) since 2011 in order to enforce
the regulations of food production and safety.
In addition, the 2011 FSMA bestows more
authority to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (U.S.FDA)
to supervise and enforce rules and regulations for food facilities
including the control and inspection of food production process
as considered as the preventive measure of food safety rather
than the corrective action.

Under the 2011 FSMA, the U.S.FDA issued an important regulation regarding to
acknowledgement of the accreditation of the export country that is Accreditation of
Third-Party Certification Bodies to Conduct Food Safety Audits and to Issue
Certifications (21 CFR part 1, subpart M) or briefly called Accredited Third-Party
Certification Program (TPP) which allows the Accreditation Body (AB) recognized by
the U.S.FDA to accredit the Certification Body (CB). Once the CB get accredited by
the AB, it can perform audit and certify for the foreign food entities and facilities under
the scope of accreditation from the AB.
The National Bureau of Agricultural Commodity and Food Standards (ACFS) has
rigorously studied this regulation and perceive the channel to promote food product
exporting to the U.S. more conveniently. ACFS as the AB for the agriculture commodity
and food products of Thailand prepared and applied to get a recognition by the U.S.
FDA in 2017. The U.S.FDA performed the assessment for the ACFS in March 2018.
Finally, the ACFS got officially accredited and recognized by the U.S. FDA under the
Accredited Third-Party Certification Program on May 30, 2018.
