In 2026, the food industry faces multifaceted challenges. Geopolitical conflicts and
widespread floods are driving up production costs and threatening food security. Wunnipa Sompud
Concurrently, AI and automation are accelerating the elimination of redundant roles. Food Innovation and Packaging Center (FIN)
Conversely, a shortage of food science professionals looms, partly because the Chiang Mai University
younger generation perceives a lack of clear career progression in this field.

On the consumer side, a fierce debate has ignited this year over soaring food and Prof. Dr. Yuthana Phimolsiripol
beverage prices. This is a domino effect of rising production costs alongside the Faculty of Agro-Industry
growth of the ultra-premium market, featuring products like matcha at thousands Chiang Mai University
of baht per cup or high-end ice cream. This situation has sparked a critical question
among consumers: Does the price paid truly equate to the value received? Because
this is an era where most people spend money with extreme caution, brands must
prove their genuine value to retain their customer base. Chureerat Pakhamsee

Looking ahead to 2027, Thai entrepreneurs must focus on survival. This requires
close situational monitoring, proactive risk management, rigorous cost control,
and the strategic adoption of smart technologies. Additionally, upskilling personnel Ravis Tasakorn
to integrate cross-disciplinary knowledge will be a vital key to enhancing Faculty of Agro-Industry
organizational resilience and navigating this crisis sustainably. Chiang Mai University
