The rate of economic growth of Malaysia is 5.1
percent per year in 2011 while inflation is remained at
control levels and most of the country’s revenue
comes from exports. Malaysia is one of the most
successful AEC PLUS countries in the production
structure change from a focus on mass production
with cheap labor into production under international
advanced technology. Then, it can become a major
producer in appliances and electronics. Malaysia
supports the development of technology in the
automotive industry and is able to produce and sell to
the world market under the brand “Proton Saga.” In
addition, the Malaysian government under the
leadership of Najib Razak has a commitment to propel
Malaysia into a high income nation by the year 2020.
Under the New Economic Model (NEM) that focuses
on the service sector that is the main driving force of
the economy, racial inequality in Malaysia is another
challenge for the government to find a solution to add
interest to investors.
