with bigger spending. It is
suitable for the retailers,
food business, agriculture,
textiles and clothing etc.
Hai Phong is an important port
city in the north and it is a great
city to run the construction
business and production of
construction materials for ports,
housing etc.
Northern areas of the
country Quang Ninh is
suitable for agricultural
industry and forestry.
The Mekong delta is a fertile
area, suitable for agricultural
industry/fishing and marine
product processing
Dalat city is another tourist
city of Vietnam. This makes
it ideal for travel related
services such as spas,
hotels etc.
Dong Nai is a province located
in just 30 miles from Ho Chi
Minh City. This city has the Thai
industrial estate, agricultural,
animal feed and accessories
industries.
Vung Tau and the
south and southwest
coast of Vietnam are
sources of oil and
energy production.
Binh Doung province is located with industrial
estates that facilitate the production of large Kraft
paper of Thailand. It is also being developed as a
zone to attract FDI.
The majority of Thai businesses are
investing in southern Vietnam. Ho Chi
Minh City is the production base for
glass and plastic packaging industry.
Da Nang is the fourth largest city with
a large population and a tourist city by
the sea. It has airport and transportation
route from Thailand. These makes it ideal
for both travel business, retail business
and business related to chemical.

• Businesses that rely on labor as the key
production factor such as textile, clothing and
apparel manufacture: Since Vietnam has a larger
population of working ages and wages are lower
than Thailand while the government also has the
privileges to businesses with focus on labor inputs
as well, factories may be located in the northern
and central Vietnam.
• Agribusiness: Vietnam also has many
resources such as fisheries, forestry etc.
Agribusiness is another type of industry the
government is encouraging to foreign investments
to achieve the optimal use of resources. Areas for
better investment include northern and southern
Vietnam.
• Construction business: Vietnam has a policy
is to invest in long-term infrastructure development
and Thailand is recognized to have potential
entrepreneurs in the construction business.
Vietnam also plans to build new towns, roads and
new airports including the construction of power
plants in the future etc. In addition, construction
business is a business that is promoted to foreign
investment as well.
• Services related to tourism such as hotels,
restaurants, spa etc. are businesses Thailand
has expertise and management knowledge
while Vietnam is still has shortage of skills in
management. The major tourist cities of Vietnam
are Da Nang, Nha Trang, and Dalat etc.
• Bus i ness r e l a t ed t o ene r gy and
petrochemicals: although Thailand has had
investment to some extents, Vietnam has plenty
of natural resources. Moreover, Vietnam’s first
oil refinery plant is in Quang Ngai province in the
central region. There is opportunity of related
businesses to invest more and more.
• Machinery and auto parts business: Since
Vietnam has compulsory local contents and has
a high market demand while technology levels
of the domestic manufacturers are not too high,
Thailand will take advantage of the expertise.
Thailand may invest in the north of Vietnamwhich
has a big harbor.
Key Success Factors
• Thai entrepreneurs need to understand
the cultural and social aspects of the consumer
markets and the labor markets clearly in order
to be able to plan the production and marketing
needs accurately.
• Investment in the industrial estate or
investment promotion zones will allow businesses
to simplify the business operation in the first place
since some of the special promotion schemes
will be facilitated for the documents of factory
construction permission. It also helps to increase
efficiency in the provision of infrastructure and
transportation as well.
