Cooperation with Neighboring Countries
On March 15, 2002, there was a project agreement to build an oil pipeline
between the Georgian government and foreign investors under the
construction pipeline route of Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC) which has the
capacity to transport up to 1 million barrels of oil per day. Such pipeline
begins in Azerbaijan (Baku city) through Georgia to the Turkish port of
Ceyhan to transfer oil to Europe via the Mediterranean sea. The project
has been completed and operation of oil and gas exports started in May
2005. There is also the North-South Transport Corridor, a route linking
Asia and Europe with the linking point of the Iranian city to ports in the
Black Sea.
International Trade of Georgia
Georgia in 2012 gained an export value of USD 3.3 billion. Major export
goods were motor vehicles (the re-export), nuts, alloy, steel scrap, copper
ore and gold. Export markets include Azerbaijan (13.8%), United States
(8.5%), Germany (8.3%), Bulgaria (7.4%), Kazakhstan (7%), Turkey
(6.4%), Ukraine (6.3%), Lebanon (5.7%) and Canada (4.2%). Regarding
imports in 2012, Georgia purchase worth USD 6.628 billion. Major
import goods include machinery and parts, vehicles, fuel, grain/food and
pharmaceutical products. Major import sources include Turkey (13.9%),
China (8.2%), Ukraine (8.2%), Russia (7.4%), Azerbaijan (7.1%), United
States (6%), Germany (5.6%) and Bulgaria (4%).
Thailand - Georgia Trade
Thailand has trade relations with Georgia during 1995. The trade between
the two countries is not very high in value but there are good prospects
for expanding trade opportunities as well. Total trade in 2012 was valued
at USD 42.38 million. Thailand exported USD 36.61 million and imported
USD 5.78 million fromGeorgia. Thailand gained the trade surplus of USD
30.83 million.
The main products exported from Thailand to Georgia are mainly
consumer goods and basic production inputs because the manufacturing
sector to compensate for imports of Georgia is not strong enough. The
